DuraClear Matte Varnish by DecoArt®
Traditions Glazing Medium by DecoArt®
6″ Square Wood Canvas by Viking Woodcrafts
Paintbrushes
Sponge Wedges
Brayer
Sanding Disc
Paper Palette
Paper Towel

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the wood canvas with sealer, sand lightly, then wipe with dampened cheese cloth. Basecoat the wood canvas with White Wash. Apply Gazing Medium to Creative Palette along with some drops of Ultra Blue Deep, True Blue, and Purple Cow. Do not put too much paint on the Creative Palette otherwise it will over blend. Gently roll the brayer over the paints until the desired effect is achieved. Press the wood canvas onto the Creative Palette and lift up. Press the sides of the wood canvas into the paint, also. Splatter the canvas with thinned Purple Cow. Allow to dry. Apply a coat of matt varnish to the surface.
  2. Apply handwriting stamp onto an acrylic handle. Dampen cosmetic sponge and remove as much water as possible. Pour a puddle of Purple Cow out on the palette paper. Pounce the sponge into the paint and then on a clean area of the palette. When you look at the bottom of the sponge it should be covered by paint but you should still be able to see the texture of the sponge. Quickly pounce the loaded sponge over the entire hand writing stamp. Stamp it to the lower left and upper right of the wood canvas. When using paint on stamps it is important that you do not overload the image. If you don’t like what you have stamped simply wipe it off with a damp paper towel! Since you already have a coat of varnish on the surface, it will clean up easily. Immediately wash the stamps with soap and water. If any has dried use an old tooth brush to clean. The sponges can also be washed and reused.
  3. Place scroll stamp on an acrylic handle. Pour out a puddle of Lamp Black. Load a new sponge in the same manner as stated above. Now quickly pounce the loaded sponge over the scroll stamp. Stamp it in the upper left and lower right corners of the canvas. Thin some of the black paint to an ink consistency and drip over the scrolls.
  4. In the same manner as above, stamp the horse onto the center of the canvas using White Wash paint. Drybrush and float highlights with White Wash to the horse. The hair is created by pulling floats and then lines of White Wash. The eye and nostrils are filled with Lamp Black.
  5. Float transparent shades with Ultra Blue Deep and Lamp Black. In the Same manner float transparent accents with Purple Cow.
  6. Apply one coat of matte varnish over the entire canvas. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat and sprinkle glitter very lightly around the horse.
